Increase of minimum wage in the Netherlands

On 1 July 2024, the Dutch legal minimum wage for workers aged 21 and over will rise by 3.1% to € 13.68 per hour. On January 1, 2024 the statutory minimum hourly wage was introduced and the fixed minimum monthly, weekly and daily wages disappeared. Since that moment on, employers are obliged by law to pay their hourly employees in the Netherlands at least the statutory minimum hourly wage. Minimum wage amounts are usually adjusted every six months (in January and July) to reflect the average development of wages in the Netherlands.

Please note that if a Collective Labour Agreement (CAO) applies to the employment relationship between the employer and the employee in the Netherlands, the minimum wage to which the employee is entitled may be higher than the statutory minimum wage! A CAO may also have consequences for the number of working hours per week and other terms and conditions of employment.
