Transportation in the Netherlands with foreign drivers?
Don’t forget the WagwEU notification!
In case of transportation in the Netherlands by a company not based in the Netherlands, driving with its own non-dutch drivers, these foreign drivers had to be reported at the applicable authority within the Dutch government until 2 February 2022. This annual WagwEU notification applied to freight transport by road, moving goods between two points (cabotage) or loading and/or unloading goods in the Netherlands, with the exception of transit transport. Furthermore it applied to both drivers in paid employment and independent drivers.
update: may 2023
The Dutch “WagwEU” notification obligation was the Dutch interpretation of the obligations imposed by the European Posting of Workers Directive on each EU country. This meant that each EU country had its own system, which led to many ambiguities for transport operators.
Fortunately, as of February 2, 2022, the WAGWEU reporting obligation for drivers has been replaced by a single EU portal, which must be used for all EU countries to report postings. More information about this portal can be found on the following website:
Interfisc does not assist with this reporting obligation for transporters, but it does assist with the WagwEU reporting obligation in other sectors. You’ll find an extensive overview of your obligations and additional information regarding secondment to the Netherlands on our website:
