In memoriam – Robert A.E. Mahieu
In memory of Robert A.E. Mahieu (1937 – 2013)
On 21 March 2013, to our great sorrow, Robert Mahieu passed away at the age of 75. In him we have lost an outstanding visionary and a committed leader, who was a great source of inspiration to all of us in our company and an unparalleled source of support right until the end. The foundation of Interfisc, the first Belgian personnel and payroll administration agency in the Netherlands, made him a pioneer as a Belgian citizen in the Netherlands. Thanks to his unique vision, he blazed a trail for many other Belgian companies who wanted to expand their operations in the Netherlands, and who today are firmly established there.
His determination to reach his goal as creatively and efficiently as possible, and his readiness to go to any lengths to achieve this, were characteristic of Robert Mahieu. There would be many obstacles in his path, but he succeeded in overcoming them all with ease.
As well as an entrepreneur in his heart and soul, Robert Mahieu was also an inspirational leader who worked side by side with his employees, and a role model who showed us, the younger generation, the way things should be done. He was not one to put himself to the fore, and he followed the principle of giving credit where credit is due, showing respect for all those around him and giving them ample opportunity for personal development, so lifting the company and the expertise embodied within it to a higher level.
It is through his faith in humanity in combination with his eye for talent that the Interfisc company today has a team of experts in the field of cross-border payroll services who are able to disseminate his vision further.
Robert Mahieu wrote history with Interfisc. For over 40 years he swam against the tide, and in doing so he resolved numerous trade barriers in the Benelux countries. He could be rightly proud of that.
We at Interfisc will of course miss his support and his faith in us tremendously. But at the same time, we are just as determined as he was himself to carry on his unique mission, and to ensure that the history of Interfisc is also carried on. In this way we honour the vow he made in the jubilee publication to mark Interfisc’s 35th anniversary in 2007: “And so we continue in the same way..”
